Richard Maggs, the AGA Cookery Doctor, was in attendance at the AGA Festival this weekend assessing AGA owners cookery conundrums. Dr. Maggs prescribed festival goers cookware to help resolve their kitchen ailments, here he shares with us his top 5 cookware prescriptions:
Symptoms: Regular irritation over slow roast potato browning, also with oven chips and potato wedges
Prescription: Full-size hard anodised Aga baking tray: use directly on the floor of the Roasting Oven for crisp and golden potato perfection
Symptoms: Emotional hankering for a one-pot-wonder, occasional twinges of wanting to stir-fry but not inclined to commit to a wok
Prescription: Aga Sauté Pan: use to start off casseroles, add liquids, cover and cook in the Simmering Oven, also improvise as a wok for stir-fries
Symptoms: Fed up with difficult to clean garlic presses plus a burning desire to make my own aromatic pastes
Prescription: Microplane Fine Grater: it will effortlessly grate garlic and hard ingredients –ginger, galangal, tumeric root, lemon grass and Parmesan – in seconds, yet washes clean in seconds in hot, soapy water
Symptoms: Regular trauma from cutting out baking parchment to fit roasting tins for weekly traybakes
Prescription: Bake-O-Glide Cooks Set: makes lining roasting tins for traybakes painless. Make sure your prescription is for the correct set: W1493 for traditional models; W2846 for all TC, DC and City60 models (with the larger hotplate circle required for these models)
Symptoms: Fed up with mediocre scrambled eggs and having a pan that is a nightmare to wash up.
Prescription: Aga non-stick saucepan makes scrambled eggs a cook’s dream – cook gently on the Simmering Plate stirring with a wooden or silicone spatula. Soak in cold water whilst you eat and then it is a doddle to wash up by hand in seconds. The same goes for cooking porridge oats in the morning... stir until cooked on the Simmering Plate and then soak in cold water whilst you eat to make washing up an absolute snap.
