The Life of an AGA Pie

AGA Cookshop Brand Manager Sarah tells us all about spending time with her two boys in the kitchen over the Summer holidays.

School holidays with my boys are the most precious times and family activities are always high on the agenda. Our British summer has been almost nonexistent this year so on one of the many rainy days we had, I saw this as a perfect opportunity to do some baking with my boys and also the new baby of the family – my AGA cooker. Having recently become an AGA owner, this is the time i really want to show my family how easy and rewarding cooking on an AGA can be. My eldest son loves to cook and so we set about making a dish for all the family to enjoy.

My sons Fynn and Noah have such different tastes in food that its sometimes hard to find something that suits everyone so we decided on a Minced Beef and Vegetable pie. Fynn so enjoyed doing the preparation for the pie and developing his very own recipe. Using my well used and loved cast aluminium casserole (this dish is older than my boys) he fried off the onions, mince, threw all the veggies in which were well prepared by Fynn then added stock, Worcester sauce and seasoning. Using the boiling plate meant that this took no time to cook the ready for our home made pastry.

Making pastry was fun if not messy. Not wanting to be left out, my little boy Noah loved rolling out the pastry ready for the base and the topping. Cooked in the baking oven this homemade, rainy day pie went down a treat.
