and … family coming for dinner…? Eek!

I’m sure many of you can relate to my weekend to do list and ordinarily, this would mean an absolutely manic weekend, compounded by the fact that husband was away (not that he’s much use anyway), but I was confident that my new AGA together with my cookware would relieve some of the strain. I had been boasting about my new, ‘amazing AGA’, and had promised my visiting family an AGA roast dinner complete with magnificent Yorkshire puddings, using the new Yorkshire pudding tray.
Helping me to get ahead I started the day with prepping my chicken on a bed of leeks and carrots, making my mashed potato, par boiling my roast potatoes, creating my stuffing balls and making my Yorkshire batter mix.

I put the chicken in the roasting oven for about 1 hour, 15 mins and moved to the Simmering oven to join my pre-made mashed potatoes.

I then swapped my beautiful hare double oven gloves, for a pair of marigolds and spent the afternoon, trying to entertain Mia, while cleaning, and also trying to persuade her that dusting is lots of fun and wrestling Loki, the greedy dachshund, away from the AGA for a walk.

When my guests arrived, I whipped up a gravy with the meat juices, and put my Yorkshires, stuffing and roast potatoes into the roasting oven. Having items that fit on the oven runners, means I can fit so much in, and make multi-tasking an absolute dream. I had high hopes for my Yorkshires, hoping they would be the pièce de résistance. I heated up the rapeseed oil in the tray, in the middle of the roasting oven for about 5 minutes. I then poured my batter mixture, straight from the fridge and heard that very satisfying ‘tsssss’ noise. I placed the tray back into the middle of the oven. I could not resist taking a peek after 20 minutes, I opened the oven door slightly and was greeted by humongously huge Yorkshire puddings, in fact, a couple had actually reached the top of the oven.

I pulled them out of the oven, grinning from ear to ear. The next hour or so, was filled with very satisfying ‘hmmms’, ‘yummies’, and ‘wows’, with my Yorkshire, pride of place of everyone’s plates.
