Make toast on the AGA using the Boiling Plate with the famous AGA wire toaster.
Pre-heat the AGA toaster first for a few moments to prevent the bread sticking, especially if it is very fresh. Add the slices of bread to the toaster and then place this on the Boiling Plate.Position the handle so that the toaster hinge isn't near the lid hinge and lower the lid.
When is it ready to turn? Look for small wisps of steam coming out from somewhere around the closed lid. If you prefer a dryer result, leave the lid up as it is cooking and more moisture will be driven off.
After making, close the lid and leave for a few minutes for the crumbs to carbonise, then simply brush off using an Aga wire brush. For dryer, rusk-like toast, place slices of bread directly on the Simmering Plate, with the lid left up, and if you are very concerned about crumb production, you can use a circular piece of Bake-O-Glide™ underneath to make cleaning up a doddle.
The Bake-O-Glide™ Cook AGA Set, which includes a pre-cut Simmering Plate circle, is available from AGA Specialists. Finally, delicious Melba Toast can be finished off on the floor of the Roasting Oven after having been started off on one of the hotplates as above and being de-crusted and cut carefully in half to produce two thin squares of bread from each slice.
