A Valentine Breakfast

It’s very often the little things in life mean the most!  Thinking of your significant person at the beginning of the special day can earn brownie points beyond expectations – or so I would like to think!

A simple breakfast, which is healthy too, quick to prepare and so easy with the use of a circle of Bake-O-Glide can create the ‘wow’ factor.  To create a heart shape no-fat cooked egg in a piece of toast you will need the AGA toaster, circle of Bake-O-Glide and a heart shaped cutter.

Cut a slice of bread, I used home-made seeded, and toast one side in the AGA toaster on the Boiling Plate, immediately take it out of the toaster and cut a heart shape out of the centre.  Place a circle of Bake-O-Glide on the Simmering Plate and put the bread, toasted side up, onto this and break an egg into the heart, a halved cherry tomato can be put beside it if you like – to add some colour.

Close the Simmering Plate lid and the egg will ‘fry’ on the base whereas the top of the egg will be cooked by the steam trapped inside the concave lid – the cooking time varies somewhat, dependent upon how you like the egg cooked, a runny or solid yolk, after a couple of minutes lift the lid to check how it is cooking.

When it is ready lift off the Bake-O-Glide with a fish slice or wide palette knife, place on a warmed plate and garnish with the tomato plus rocket or watercress.  Bake-O-Glide is non-stick and washable, by hand or in the dishwasher – place between two plates to keep it captive.  (If you are using a brand new piece of Bake-O-Glide, after washing in hot soapy water, just smear with a little oil before using for the first time on the Simmering Plate).

Of course ‘cooks perks’ is the heart shape which you have cut out of the centre of the toast, liberally spread with butter or indeed spread with cream cheese and drape with smoked salmon – well it’s a thought!!

By Dawn Roads.
